Winter Brain Welcomes Novice Skiers to Lake Tahoe
We invite all who attend Winter Brain to enjoy the thrill of skiing and the beautiful scenery of the Sierra Nevada mountains at Lake Tahoe!
When it comes to skiing, like all ventures in life, you have to start somewhere. To help those who are new to skiing , we created this guide with insider tips and advice for novice skiers. It should help you navigate the slopes and maximizing your time both on and off the mountain. Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to enjoy a memorable winter adventure with us and return more confident year after year.
The Foundations for Beginners
1. Rent Equipment When Possible
Purchasing ski equipment is a costly investment, and logistically difficult when traveling. The Paslisades offers equipment rentals and an exclusive discount to Winter Brain attendees.

The Palisades offers half-day lessons for adults. These lessons will start you off with a strong foundation of techniques to keep you safe and reduce the learning curve for novice skiers. Additionally, your instructions can give you insider information on which areas will be the best for your experience level.

3. Pack & Dress for the Conditions
We recommend dressing in layers when going out onto the mountain. In addition to the basics (hat, gloves, scarf), some additional equipment you will want to bring include goggles, a helmet, a neck buff, a warm hat, lip balm, and sunscreen. Many Winter Brainers also bring along an easy snack like a protein bar or trail mix.
Pack extra gloves and socks since these have a tendency to get wet.
What to know about winter brain’s activities
Our unique conference is designed to offer attendees front row access to cutting-edge brain science research, and the opportunity to connect with the great outdoors. This year’s conference is no different. However, there are a few considerations for novice skiers.

The Smitty Stevens Ski Slalom
The Smitty Stevens Ski Slalom is a highlight of our conference. However, the difficulty level of the course makes it appropriate for more advanced skiers to ski into. However, we invite all to come, watch, cheer, and celebrate and offer alternate transportation.
Getting Between Everline & The Palisades
It is possible to ski between Everline and The Palisades, but it can be logistically difficult for new skiers.
