Inclusion at Winter Brain

Inclusion at the Winter Conference on Brain Research

The Winter Conference on Brain Research (WCBR) is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive scientific community. We recognize that inclusion strengthens neuroscience by incorporating a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and ideas—ultimately leading to more innovative research, improved healthcare solutions, and a deeper understanding of the human brain. Diverse scientific teams have historically driven breakthroughs, from life-saving treatments to mental health strategies that better serve all communities.

WCBR values diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, nationality, disability status, career stage, institutional affiliation, socioeconomic background, and educational experience. We believe that fostering an inclusive and equitable environment not only enriches the scientific process but also ensures that neuroscience research reflects and benefits the populations it aims to serve.

Equity is a core principle of this mission. We are committed to reducing systemic barriers to participation by providing support such as travel grants, accessibility accommodations, and inclusive programming. We also ensure equitable consideration for speakers and panelists across career stages based on scientific merit and potential, not institutional prestige or seniority. Through transparent processes and ongoing feedback from our community, we continuously evaluate and refine our efforts to uphold equity in all aspects of the conference.

As an institution, WCBR is committed to:

· Expanding access to career and networking opportunities for scientists from all backgrounds.

· Supporting mentorship and professional development initiatives that promote inclusivity in neuroscience.

· Encouraging diverse representation in conference programming, leadership, and speaker selection.

· Creating an environment where all attendees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute.

By embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into our institutional framework, WCBR supports a research community that is both excellent and representative of the world it seeks to improve. When science includes everyone, discoveries become more relevant, solutions more effective, and the benefits reach farther—enhancing public health, advancing technology, and enriching society as a whole.
